Spring 2025 Beginner Simulation Facilitator Course

The Beginner Simulation Facilitator Course is intended for instructors with limited formal training with simulation education. This course has a hybrid design, with an online and face-to-face component. A completion certification will be provided after the course. 

Topics that will be covered include: 

  • Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice

  • Closed loop communication

  • Simulation resources

  • Moulage

  • Psychological safety

  • Pre-briefing

  • Debriefing tools

  • Simulation outcomes and objectives

  • Scenario building

The Fall Conference is held yearly to provide a wonderful learning opportunity provided by simulation experts in the community. The Fall Conference is open to all simulationists, including simulation facilitators and educators, simulation operations specialists, and staff. Topics are centered around Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice.

Discounts on registration will be provided for large groups and USC members.

This course builds upon the foundational concepts of simulation facilitation introduced in the Beginner Simulation Facilitator Course. This course is offered in-person only and will be completed in one day. This course is best suited for instructors who have some basic formal training within simulation education.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • Foundational content review (such as closed-loop communication and debriefing theories)

  • Difficult debriefing

  • Review of virtual and remote simulation options

  • Debriefing of virtual and remote simulation options

  • SSIH Accreditation Standards

  • INACSL Endorsement Standards

  • CHSE Certification: review of process, renewal process requirements, and resources

Simulation Operations Specialists (SOS) Course

This course is designed to train interested individuals to function as Simulation Operations Specialists in healthcare education facilities. This course provides education about simulation as a teaching modality; the role of a Simulation Operations Specialist; and hands-on training with high-fidelity manikins, healthcare equipment, and moulage.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • SOS roles and responsibilities

  • Review of healthcare equipment

  • Manikin care and feeding

  • Team communication

  • Moulage (beginner and advanced)

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification: how to study and succeed!

  • Facilitating a simulation scenario
